On Wednesday, February 1st 2017, the Canadian Space Agency released a list of the 72 remaining candidates [1] in the running to become Canada’s next two astronauts. Among those finalists is our very own Scott VanBommel [2].
The process began in June of last year, with the Canadian Space Agency's call for applications: "Astronauts wanted". The initial number of applicants was 3,772. At the end of September 2016, 1,706 made the first cut and by November 2016 only 163 candidates remained under consideration. The final two candidates are expected to be announced some time during Summer 2017.
