The Guelph Physics live stream begins its autumn series Tuesday September 28th at 7:00 pm EDT with a discussion about New Frontiers!

Our guest is Guelph Physics Assistant Professor Dr. Dennis Muecher.

Dennis is Assistant Professor at the University of Guelph, joint with TRIUMF, Canada’s laboratory for Particle, Nuclear and Medical research.

His research ranges from exploring the properties of heavy elements formed in space to designing unique and novel approaches to radiation therapy here on Earth.

In 2018, he received a “New Frontiers in Research” fund exploring high-precision proton radiation therapy in Canada. In 2017 he was awarded the “John R. Evans Leaders Fund” for the development of a state-of-the-art radiation detector. Dr. Muecher has lead projects at CERN (Geneva, Switzerland), RIKEN (Tokyo, Japan), FAIR (Darmstadt, Germany) and TRIUMF (Vancouver, Canada) related to nuclear and medical research. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cologne in 2009 and worked as a medical physicist in Duisburg, Germany developing radiation treatment plans for cancer patients.

As always, we will have a live Q&A where we will endeavour to answer your questions in real time!
Please join us for this unique opportunity to discuss the foundational elements of the universe! If you are an undergraduate or graduate student looking for an interesting and compelling career, this will be the stream for you!
