Guelph Physics Livestream: Physics & the Cosmos

The Guelph Physics live stream continues its summer series Tuesday July 20th at 7:00 pm EDT with a discussion about Physics and the Cosmos! 

Our guest is Guelph Physics Assistant Professor and Associate Faculty at the Perimeter Institute, Dr. Daniel Siegel. 

Daniel is a theoretical astrophysicist interested in connecting fundamental physics with the cosmos. He uses supercomputers to simulate violent cosmic events such as the collision of neutron stars and black holes. These simulations allow him to pursue a broad range of research interests including gravitational physics, nuclear astrophysics, high-energy astrophysics, and transient astronomy. In particular, Daniel investigates how the Universe creates heavy elements in such cosmic events and provides interpretation for associated 'kilonovae', a new type of astronomical transient that signals the production of such elements. Before joining Perimeter Institute and UoG in Summer 2019, he spent three years as a NASA Einstein Postdoctoral Fellow at Columbia University. Prior to his stay in New York, Daniel received his PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Potsdam, Germany.
