What are the horizontal and vertical components of the 20.0 N force shown in the diagram.

Now that you have the completed diagram in front of you, all that is left is to use the formulae for sine and cosine to determine the two components.

Remember:
cos=adjacent/hypotenusesin=opposite/hypotenuse

For the horizontal component:

 Hor.comp=cos(65)×Hypoteneuse=cos(65)×20.0N=8.45N.

or       

Hor.comp=sin(25)×Hypoteneuse=sin(25)×20.0N=8.45N

For the vertical component:

Vert.comp=cos(25)×Hypoteneuse=cos(25)×20.0N=18.1N

or       

Vert.comp=sin(65)×Hypoteneuse=sin(65)×20.0N=18.1N
