2022 CEPS Undergraduate Poster Session
Congratulations to all the participants in the 2022 CEPS Undergraduate Poster Session (CUPS). The event was a great success, and the students did a fantastic job showcasing some of the amazing undergraduate student research that is being done in our College! From the feedback I received during the event, the judges and visitors to the session were impressed with all the student presentations and the quality of their scientific research.
While the quality of all the poster presentations made it very difficult to differentiate between the student presenters, the judges settled on the following posters in the Top Overall Poster Presentation competition:
- 1st place: Ricky Summerlin (Physics) - Rheology of Charge-Modified, Soft Phytoglycogen Nanoparticles
- 2nd place: Callum Wareham and Elijah Kent (Physics) - Tipsy Cones: Optical Conductivity of Tilted Dirac Cones with Varying Pseudospin
- 3rd place: Rashi Mathur (Computer Science) - Communicating Crisis in a Digital Age
As one of the organizers for this year's session, I would like to highlight the graduate students that volunteered their time and expertise to serve as judges for the event: Samantha Binkley (Chemistry), Ryan Curry (Physics), Devin Hymers (Physics), Bryn Knight (Physics), Matthew Kreitzer (Math & Stats), Sylvia Luyben (Physics), Joshua Van Der Zalm (Chemistry), and Raoul Vaz (Physics). I also want to thank staff members Kiley Rider (Physics) and Rachel Baker (Physics) for their help in organizing and setting up the event. This event would not have been possible without your efforts, so I sincerely thank you all.
Thanks to all the members of the College who came to the event for your enthusiasm and for helping the students refine their presentation skills. Many of the students have commented that they enjoyed the event and that they were thankful for the encouragement and support that they received from people that stopped by their posters.
I would also like to thank the CEPS Dean's Office and the individual Departments and Schools within the College of Engineering and Physical Science for their ongoing support of this annual event. We can now look forward to CUPS 2023, with Ryan Curry (Physics) and Samantha Binkley (Chemistry) agreeing to take on the role as co-organizers. They would welcome the addition of a graduate student organizer from each of the other units in CEPS (Math & Stats, Computer Science, and Engineering), so please contact me (cschultz@uoguelph.ca) if you are interested in joining the organizing team for next year.
See you in August 2023!
