Congratulations to Ryan Plestid whose score in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is the second highest score obtained at Guelph in the past six years; his score places him among the top 22% of students writing the Putnam this year North-America wide.

The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is an annual contest for college students established in 1938 in memory of its namesake.

Each year on the first Saturday in December, over 2000 students spend 6 hours (in two sittings) trying to solve 12 problems. Individual and team winners (and their schools, in the latter case) get some money and a few minutes of fame.
