Phys Phest 2017 Results
PhysPhest is a celebration of the research being conducted in the Physics Department by M.Sc. and Ph.D. students who are completing their first year in the program. This year, PhysPhest was held on September 6th with 10 students presenting their research to the department in a series of short (~ 10 - 12 minute) talks. The best speakers were selected by the general audience.
The top speakers for 2017 are:
Graduate Student Joseph Turko places 2nd for Best Student Talk at the 2017 Winter Nuclear & Particle Physics Conference
Congratulations to Joseph Turko who placed second for Best Student Talk for his talk on "Simulating the DESCANT Neutron Detection Array with the Geant4 Toolkit" at the 54th Winter Nuclear & Particle Physics Conference. This year's conference took place at the Banff Centre, Banff Alberta, from February 16th to 19th, 2017.
Phys Phest 2016 Results
PhysPhest is a celebration of the research being conducted in the Physics Department by M.Sc. and Ph.D. students who are completing their first year in the program. This year, PhysPhest was held on September 7th with 11 students presenting their research to the department in a series of short (~ 12 - 15 minute) talks. The best speakers were selected by the general audience (48 votes).
The top speakers for 2016 are:
Graduate Student Christina Burbadge places 2nd for Best Paper Presentation in the Nuclear Physics Division at the 2016 CAP Congress
Congratulations to Christina Burbadge who placed second for Best Paper Presentation Prize in the Nuclear Physics Division for her presentation of her paper titled "Investigating the nature of excited 0+ states populated via the 162Er(p,t) reaction" at the 2016 CAP Congress. Christina is leading the analysis of data obtained from the MLL facility in Munich, Germany, by the collaboration involving Guelph, TRIUMF, the Technical University Munich, Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich, and the University of Western Cape (South Africa).
Graduate Students Evan Rand and Andrew MacLean awarded 1st and 2nd place, respectively, for their presentations at 2015 CAP Congress
Congratulations to Evan Rand and Andrew MacLean who were awarded the 1st place and 2nd place prizes, respectively, in the Division of Nuclear Physics best student presentation competition at the annual Canadian Association of Physicists Congress held in Edmonton Alberta, June 15-19.

Congratulations to Robert Moscaritolo, Russell Spencer and Calvin Tabert on their success in giving their talks at the CAP Congress!
- Russell Spencer placed first in the Division of Condensed Matter and Materials Physics.
- Robert Moscaritolo tied for first in the Division of Medical and Biological Physics and went on to win first prize overall for Best Student Talk in the Friday competition.
- Calvin Tabert placed third in the Division of Condensed Matter and Materials Physics.
