Abstract

We surveyed first-year STEM students at the University of Guelph in engineering, life science, and physical science programs about the influences and motivations that led to them choosing their program. We collected information about their educational physics experiences in primary and secondary school, why they chose to take/ not take Grade 11/12 physics, and their career interests. Finally, we collected information on their Physics Identity (to what degree they see themselves as a “physics person”) at each stage of their educational career. We will share the results of the survey with you and brainstorm ways to engage students with physics.
