Abstract
When viewing a sample through a basic microscope, only a two dimensional picture can be formed. Other imaging techniques can convey information along the third spatial axis, but only to a skin depth of the sample. How do you determine a materials internal structure which is only hinted at on its exterior? How do you look beyond the surface? This question has been answered in various ways in the field of material science, with each imaging method having its own strengths and limitations. This talk will introduce three separate techniques, each based off of a different physical interaction and each capable of producing a 3D image with all three spatial dimensions having comparable length scales.
