Abstract
A century ago, Einstein's theory of general relativity predicted waves could be generated in the curvature of spacetime. In September 2015, these gravitational waves were directly detected for the first time by the Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO). Last week, the fourth official observation of this phenomenon was announced; this time with the help of three separate detectors. In this week's seminar, I will summarize what we know about these observations, provide some details on the physics, as well as describe recent advances in gravitational-wave astronomy.
